RECOMMENDEDREADINGS
You will find a list of Recommended Readings in your Companion Workbook. There are a total of 132 recommended readings in My EQ. Click here if you are interested in seeing the full list. Remember though that not all of them apply to you and you should focus only on those that have been recommended to you in the Expert Guides and Companion Workbooks.
The Recommended Readings form an important part of My EQ. Topics have been selected that specifically address each of the 16 Personality Dimensions and the reading list is different for each Personality Dimension.
For instance, let's say that your profile shows that you are a leader with very high dominance. You will find 8 Recommended Readings that address the counterproductive behaviors of high dominance in various ways. They are:
• Active Listening
• Win - Win Negotiations
• Empathy
• Grow Coaching Model
• Relaxation Techniques
• Heron's 6 Categories
• Leader's Mood
• Situational Leadership
These topics have specifically been selected to help someone with high dominance to deal with it from different angles. Highly dominant people tend to be poor listeners. Active Listening addresses this. They can be pushy and over - competitive. Win - win negotiations addresses this. They are inclined to see things from their own point of view. Articles on Empathy will address this. Highly dominant leaders can be autocratic. The Grow Coaching Model, Situational Leadership and Heron's 6 Categories are directed at this downside. Finally highly dominant leaders are not always aware of how they impact or land on others. The topic on Leader's Mood helps to create awareness around this.
We all behave in the ways we do, because we follow the mental maps and scripts in our heads that we have developed over time. These scripts are often limiting but we are bound to the same old behaviors until we are shown that there is a better way. The self - awareness exercises are designed for you to become aware of the need for change. The Recommended Readings are aimed at helping you make those changes by providing you with new learnings. These learnings can help you to re - write your scripts and mental maps by showing you a new and better way of dealing with yourself and with situations.
The Recommended Readings therefore play a central role in My EQ. They will "help you to fill in the gaps". In other words, they provide you with the information and knowledge you need to develop new skills that will either add to your repertoire of productive behaviors, or help you to replace counterproductive behaviors with more productive ones.
To find useful articles on the topics in your list of Recommended Readings simply type the title of reading, e.g. Smart Goals, Leader's Mood, Micromanagement, Active Listening etc. into the Google search bar. You are of course free to use any articles you find on the web.
