IMPLEMENTING COACHING SUGGESTIONS

The Coach Suggests section of the report contains many potentially useful suggestions for change. With respect to Alison's tendency for instance to be overly - conscientious numerous suggestions are made in the Coach Suggests section of the Expert Guide that will help her to chart and practise new behavior, for example:

  • reflect on what the purpose of your job is. Look at the big picture - what are the broad functions, goals, KPA’s and longer term objectives that you need to focus on. Write them down and read them over from time – to – time. This will encourage you to take your eyes off the detail and onto the broader focus of your job. This is something you may need to do periodically.
  • learn how to prioritise and discriminate between what is good enough and what is perfect. This could be helped along by reading the following article and then make a list of the pros and cons of aiming for perfection versus aiming for an acceptably good enough standard.
  • learn to step away from tasks, projects and assignments and learn to let go. This is especially true when it comes to delegation. It could be very helpful for you to learn sound delegating skills and then to remind yourself to let go once you have implemented the delegation process with subordinates.

Remember, that you will not be doing Recommended Readings, developing Target Behaviors or EQ Workouts for all your Personality Dimensions, only those on which you achieved very high scores. The Coach Suggests therefore still provides you with practical advice on how you can improve your leadership even though it may not be a high priority development area.
