THE JOHARI WINDOW
The Johari Window is way to understand things about ourselves that are in our awareness and things about ourselves that are out of our awareness.
We all have things we know about ourselves, and that other people are aware of. This is represented by the dark blue block called the "Open Area" of the Johari Window. There are also things we know about ourselves that others are unaware of. This is represented by the light blue "Hidden Area" block. The blue blocks represent the total sum of my self - awareness.
Then there are things that others see in me that I am not aware of. This is represented by the dark green "Blind Area" block. There are also things about me that are undiscovered. These are things neither I nor others have discovered about me yet. This is represented by the light green "Unknown Area" block. The green block represent the total sum of the things about myself that I have not yet discovered or that I am unaware of.
JOHARI WINDOW

One of the key objectives of My EQ is to help you to become more self - aware and to help you to understand how your personality works both for and against you as a leader. You will be getting feedback on your assessment via a highly detailed feedback report called the Expert Guides which will help you to increase your self - awareness.
Some of this feedback will fall into your Self - Aware area - in other words it will confirm to you things you already know about yourself.
Some of the feedback will fall into the Unaware area - in other words it may make you aware of things about yourself that you were possibly unaware of. This can cause a degree of discomfort and your initial reaction may be to discount the feedback or to label your assessment as being inaccurate.
This is a common defence mechanism when things are brought into our awareness which we were previously unaware of - especially when these things may represent a slightly more negative aspect about ourselves. We strongly recommend that you do not discount the feedback in your Expert Guides, before implementing the self - awareness exercises which form one of the cornerstones of My EQ.
We concede that no assessment is 100% accurate, and that not all of the behaviors described in your Expert Guides will necessarily apply to you. However, start My EQ with an attitude of openness, be willing to concede that feedback which you initially don't agree with may be accurate, and test the feedback by completing the self - awareness exercises.
An important part of your growth as a leader is to roll back the "unaware area" and bring that into awareness. You cannot change or work on anything, unless you are aware that there is a need to do so. Unconscious incompetence (e.g. I'wasn't aware that I am bombastic and domineering) needs be brought into awareness and become conscious incompetence before you can begin to work on it.
